Korea Nuclear Industry Experience Program

The Korea Nuclear Association for International Cooperation (KNA) has extended an invitation for NIASA members to participate in the 'Korea Nuclear Industry Experience Program' for executives of the electric power industry of the Republic of South Africa from 1 – 6 September, 2013. This opportunity is offered subject to the following constraints:

(i) the offer is not available to NIASA members who are nuclear reactor vendors;
(ii) that in the event of more than 10 volunteers coming forward, preference will be given to NIASA sponsor members;
(iii) thought will be given towards including a diversity of industry sectors and of candidates.

Attached is the proposed program and requirements. Could you therefore indicate your interest by responding to this as soon as possible to enable adequate time for preparation. She is expecting to host (plus or minus) ten people on this visit. It would be appreciated if the NIASA secretariat could receive the responses by Wednesday 17th July, 2013.

Please note that this is an all-expenses paid for visit targeted at executives in the electric power industry in South Africa.

NIASA Convention - Port Elizabeth, August 2013

The Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa (NIASA) held its annual industry convention in Port Elizabeth in 2013 from the 14th to the 16th of August 2013.
A considerable expansion of nuclear power is coming to South Africa and this is exciting!  It also brings with it a great challenges and opportunities for the South African industry, large and small.
With the construction of a number of large nuclear reactors in the pipeline, major economic benefits will result from this nuclear program.
We need the South African industry to benefit from this great venture.  Companies which have never been involved in nuclear activities before can enter the developments at this early stage.  There will also be a number of opportunities to meet the various companies that are involved in the nuclear industry and network with the current industry players.
Most of a nuclear power plant is actually general engineering, even though the construction and fabrication needs to be carried out to a high degree of quality as with most advanced facilities.

The Convention:
The convention will take place at The Boardwalk Hotel, Port Elizabeth on the 14th & 15th of August 2013.
On the 16th of August: Tour of the COEGA IDZ and the Port of Ngqura, including a networking lunch.

Participation from Westinghouse, Rosatom, Areva, SNPTC, Aveng, Necsa, Gibb, COEGA.
Be part of the excitement!

Delegate fees:
Non-Member:        R6 000.00
NIASA Member:     R5 000.00

Course Aims & Main Content
The main aim of the course is to increase public awareness of nuclear, and to equip participants with a sound understanding of the key issues underlying the development of nuclear power today, together with an appreciation of its likely expansive future. For those already with knowledge of some aspects of nuclear, it will broaden their horizons to the full range of issues that underlie it. For others newer to the field, it should open up many of the apparent mysteries and possible misunderstandings. The course is intentionally international in focus, based on the World Nuclear University (WNU) experience of running longer courses both in the UK and overseas countries. The course consists of 10 units, each of half an hour. There will be 15-20 minutes of presentation in each, followed by questions and class discussion.
